Homemade Gingerbread House

What get's better at Christmas than making your very own Gingerbread House!  Get baking and have a few hours of Christmas fun with your Little elves.

What you need:

For the gingerbread:

250g unsalted butter

200g dark muscovado sugar

7 tbsp golden syrup

600g plain flour

2 tsp bicarbonate of soda

5 tsp ground ginger

To decorate:

Royal icing

Assortment of sweets

Icing sugar to dust


1. Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Melt the butter, sugar and syrup in a pan. Mix the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ground ginger into a large bowl, then stir in the butter mixture to make a stiff dough. If it won’t quite come together, add a tiny splash of water

2.Cut out the house template/design on to parchment, roll the dough out to two £1 coin thickness, place the parchment on top of the dough and cut out the parts you need and bake for 12mins.

3.Use the royal icing to stick all parts together and decorate with sweets, dust with icing sugar.
